You're right, it was horribly depressing, gratuitously brutal, and the ONLY consolation you get (as a viewer) is the news that the mother did go to prison. Not only that, I'll never be able to look at Catherine Keener the same way again, and I like her! Booooo!!!!! :( Guess what? I watched it, but before I read your review.
