I Saved $1,700 by Shopping!
Imagine how thrilled I was to see the metallic green Marni bag on the left for $1,815 at net-a-porter! It reminded me of my metallic green Not Rational handbag that I got on sale for $75, because no one was stupid enough to pay the original price of $550. I bought it at a swanky store called Traffic. I think I squealed something like “Oh god, what an offensive color!” I meant it in a good way.
After I paid for it, the sales assistant offered to keep an eye out for other offensive bags. I said “Sure,” because it was easier than explaining the difference between Good Offensive and regular offensive.
I have never used this bag, which normally hangs from my tailor’s dummy when it isn’t posing gracefully on the commode. On its other side it has two pockets with snaps. It is incredibly soft. I don’t expect to put it into play.
If you’ve ever saved a lot of money by shopping for something you will never wear, let’s hear about it!

You should put that bag into play immediately – it is wondrous indeed!

i love this offensive green shade. it is the exact same green as the stockings and shirt shirley maclaine wore as irma la douce in her svelte golden years.
it’s wicked witch of the west. it’s yummo.

So far, not yet. I wish . . . It would be nice to make a sensible decision for a change! I love the color of that bag.

paul smith shoes at a sample sale for 50$– retailed for $450
behnaz sarafpour dress for 80$ at barneys warehouse sale– retailed for $1800
carolina herrera silk and cashmere top at a random outlet strip=mall place where i stopped for a pee, 40$–tag said $1250.
i gave the carolina herrera top away because it i could see that it was disgusting once the rush wore off, the dress gets pulled out for occasions, and the shoes are going strong.
total savings: $3330

I have a pair of rarely worn Dolce & Gabbana shoes that I got for $100, down from $1150. I do wear them occasionally though.

Skye, enc, Miss Wombat – Thanks for the encouragement, even if you’re just kidding
annemarie – Wow, you are gonna be a millionaire soon!
WendyB – I can see why you had to get them, it would be a crime not to.

I have to say, I don’t really have any saving money stories. If I buy it and it’s pricey, godammit, I’m gonna wear it until it falls apart or I sell it on eBay. Usually the only time I “save” money is when I buy something from UO and it shrinks to be pint size and gets passed on immediately to the godsisters and their wardrobe’s are looking hipper by the days (clearly, I never learn my lesson).

Aja, me neither. In fact, my brother just got a tattoo of a candle burning at both ends, with the words “I Never Learn.”

I used to do this all the time! Before I got married and had to show another human being my credit card debt. Worse, I had a friend (worked for Donna Karan) who would send me boxes of “fabulous samples” and I’d buy it all. I was the last in a long sample food chain, so you can imagine the shit that still hangs in my closet, some still unworn. Total, my savings is easy in the thousands.
Love that green bag.

How about the $100, three-quarter length faux shearling I bought? Saved me thousands from buying real shearling. Makes me look like a pimp.

Sister, what is it with you always buying things you will never use? Are you planning to open Sister Wolf’s Den of Curiosities? If so, I’d like an invite please.

That shade of green is the exact same shade of green the bag I recently purchased is! I think it is a wonderful color. I am just a little jealous that you paid less for your bag, though.
