What’s Wrong With This Picture?

This is a real question.

This is how Madonna dressed her daughter Mercy for a day out in Manhattan, while she herself wore some crap by Ed Hardy. Why does she want her child to look like a fucking lawn jockey?!? I can see that Mercy looks happy, but this get-up is so disturbing.

Is it me? Or what?

Oh, I thought it was adorable. Don’t be mad! Is that one of those Stella McCartney for Gap jackets?

  2. Sister Wolf Says:

WendyB – Correct, it is. Meanwhile, a friend just came over and regarding this photo, said: “Michael Jackson!”

  3. Leslie Says:

I think it’s cute. The kid looks better than half the attention-seeking “fashion” bloggers on the iNet. Kids can get away with wearing that kind of thing.

The only thing I disapprove of is the bag. It’s too normal.

  4. Stella Mayfair Says:

i liked it too. she’s really cute.
but madonna wearing ed retardy is something entirely different, though. let’s spike our hair and get fist pumping now, everybody!

While it’s okay and Mercy is adorable, I get what you mean with the disturbing factor. Putting a little child in tailored clothing, lots of black, and a purse is just not age appropriate. It’s like how Angelina and Brad drape their family in neutral tones only. Sure, the pics of me in anachronistic bonnets and pink frills when I was a baby make me think my mom was a moron, but children’s clothes are not supposed to be serious or grown-up. The hat and shoes are at least in the right neighborhood.

I’m glad she looks happy but I do know what you mean about the outfit. I thought straight away it was a bit Michael Jackson but overall the bag is a bit worrying. I suppose I wouldn’t dress her like this and it is easy for me to think this with the 4 yr old petit garcon. He never looks like a lawn jockey – I had no idea about this until I look at the link, slightly weird btu no worse than garden gnomes.

  7. Faux Fuchsia Says:

Who am I to judge, I dressed my 4 year old niece up as Jackie Kennedy Onassis on the weekend with a Pucci headscarf and Fendi oversized sunglasses and made her say repeatedly “I’m Jackie!”

  8. tobilynne Says:

    No. It’s not you. This get-up is … I dunno … bizarre?

  9. honeypants Says:

Just looking at the photo, without enlarging it, and before reading what you said, I thought I was looking at a picture of a little boy dressed up as a British Judge — with the powdered wig instead of the hat and scarf. THAT would actually be an even more retarded way to dress once’s child, and who but Madonna would do something so idiotic anyway. I was disappointed to realize that it was just my eyes playing tricks on me.

  10. Ann Says:

She totally stole Sea of Shit’s band jacket.

  11. Tara Says:

Even before I read your comment I was wondering why Madonna would turn her child into a lawn jockey. It’s actually really disturbing how clueless she is about that look. But then again, she did jump on the adoption train so I’m not that surprised.

  12. Susan Says:

This little dear was plucked from poverty and blatantly plopped into the land of wretched excess. I believe the childhood dichotomy is what we find disturbing.

  13. Aja Says:

Susan took the words right out of my mouth. Can you imagine what her fellow orphans and family in Malawi must be thinking???

  14. Andra Says:

    I think she looks gorgeous.
And furthermore, my granddaughter (just turned 5) has been picking her own clothes for 2 years or more. Nobody tells her what to wear!
And furthermore furthermore, I was just as pigheaded when I was that age. Wore what I wanted and changed clothes at least 6 times a day!
    Still do too!

  15. hammie Says:

Maybe I am crazy but I think little girls should dress as little girls, and it is not as if Madonna has to live vicariously through her child, She wears enough weird shit herself.
    xx

  16. Cricket9 Says:

Uh…a weird and slightly creepy outfit on a cute little girl. Why, oh why did I have to learn about Ed Hardy? I hope we are not allowing Ed Hardy in Canada, but I’m probably wrong…

  17. Sister Wolf Says:

Leslie -But why does a 3 year old need a bag?

Stella Mayfair – I don’t get her Ed Hardy stuff…it must be some sort of business arrangement, right?

    Kate – THANK YOU.

Make Do – She should take lessons from the petit garcon, who always gets it right.

Faux Fuchsia – Well, WHO DOESN’T dress their kid like Jackie O???

    tobilynne – THANK YOU.

Honeypants – YES, I saw the powdered wig as well! We are sharing the same brain! Hahahaha!

Ann -Oh no, there will be blood.

    Tara – THANK YOU.

    Susan – That too.

Aja – They might think, Oooh that jacket could feed me for a month. Or just, Who is that lawn jockey?

Andra – You change 6 times a day? YOU NEED A FUCKING STYLE BLOG!

    Hammie – Amen.

Cricket9 – Imagine a country with good health car and no Ed Hardy!

  18. WendyB Says:

Speak of the devil — I thought I’d seen this before: http://links.assetize.com/links/5dab8f

  19. Emily Says:

No…it is definitely not just you.

  20. Aimee- WTF! Says:

Had Madonna had a child in the early 80′s, she’d be dressed almost exactly like this anyway.

  21. kellie Says:

it would be the perfect outfit if the shoes were BLACK not white.
Nothing looks cheaper than white shoes.

  22. potenta Says:

come ooon! she’s really cute :)

    don’t be mean :(
