I’m Too Smart For Alex Wang

He thought I’d make fun of this “sock boot” by combining a lace-up shoe with a folded-over top and a knee high boot. And he was so desperate to get a reaction from me that he even added a silver metal toe thing.

No dice, Alex. I’m not taking the bait. You’ll have to get someone else this time.      ($925 at Shopbop)

  2. Make Do Style Says:

Alexander Who? Does he still make things?

  3. Marky Says:

I’m taking the bait: these are hideous.

  4. Alicia Says:

I think I’d kinda like them without the sock boot. Wouldn’t wear or pay for them, but I might like them.

  5. Ann Says:

Who do we pick as first to rock this boot? Not Roomy, she is rarely seen in flats.

And wait – $925? For real?

  6. KD Says:

As they say in the local parlance,”These are wicked retarded.”

  7. Cheraya Says:

Oooooh!! They’re by Alexander Wang so they must be cool!

  8. Sheri Says:

    Blech.

  9. the real andrea Says:

EEEWWW! I can’t wait to see which asshole will be photographed for some street style blog wearing these. Absolutely awful.

    I pity the fool…

  12. MJ Says:

I’m too sexy for my Wang…

No, that wasn’t what I meant.

    I meant –

    What’s it all about, Al-eeeeeee?

Or to channel the best TV show ever, The Wire, OH HELL NO.

  13. Georgia Says:

    Fucking hell Alex Wang!

  14. Cricket9 Says:

Is he trying to – how shall I put it – out-crap himself? He was recently at Holt Renfrew (a very expensive and snobby store) in Toronto – I couldn’t believe the crowd of “fashionistas” (I do hate the word) of all ages falling over themselves to get his autograph and squealing like a bunch of little girls.

  15. Srenna Says:

Those are so cute! BTW, I am totally kidding.

  16. slutface Says:

I was just sick a little bit in my mouth

  17. Cybill Says:

Alex is now designing with his wang.

  18. Suzanne aka Punk Glam Queen Says:

Yeah, I’ll take the bait with Marky. I would honestly laugh out loud if I saw someone wearing those on the street. Fugly.
    XXX
    Suzanne

  19. Ash Says:

What a complete waste of leather and metal.

  20. patni Says:

I wish i could pay my rent by thinking up the most hideous fucking ghastly thing i could imagine and selling it for a thousand dollars. I could deal with teens squealing over me.

  21. Aja Says:

I’m going to pass on the shoes. But I did just get a really great sweater by him so I refuse to knock the man completely.

  22. Joy D. Says:

    Why? Why make this shoe?

  23. Natalie / Fashion Intel Says:

That is one gnarly show. Barf.

  24. Elaine Says:

    oh hell no
this better not spawn a new trend among fashion bloggers wearing converse hi-tops pulled down and knee high socks

  25. Kellz Says:

What the fuck is that monstrosity?

  26. Aloix Says:

@ KD – I think you mean ‘wicked radtarded’ ;)

And I’m with Alicia, without the ‘sock’, they’re bearable. Not buyable nor worth hundreds of dollars, but not vomit-worthy either.

Meh, admittedly I’m a sucker for black leather footwear with silver hardware.

  27. arline Says:

    Fugly!

  28. Juicier Says:

    frankenboot

  29. Mary Says:

As soon as I saw these on shopbop, I knew you would feature them. They are unnecessarily ugly. That is all.

  30. Penny Dreadful Vintage Says:

    *snort*

  31. RedHeadFashionista Says:

Oh Alex. I love you. I want to dress like you want me to. I have a pair of your ‘Freja’ boots that I went without food for a week for because they were so darn cheap in the Selfridges sale (and no, they weren’t that cheap and I still feel bad for buying them) and because they are named after my favourite model ever. But these? I can’t forgive you. I can’t quite believe they’re real.

  32. RedHeadFashionista Says:

PS Elaine, I’m pretty sure that’s already happened.

  33. Rackk and Ruin Says:

Fugliest things i’ve EVER seen. C’mon alex. Even without the leather sock thing they are pretty bad. oops, misdesign.

  34. Elizette Says:

@MJ – “I’m too sexy for my Wang” – hahahaha! Cybill’s comment about Alex now “designing with his wang” got a good laugh too. Stopping by this site of a morning is a guaranteed pick me up. Thank you to SW and (most) commenters!

  35. Catherine Says:

I am going to buy these and wear them with my denim on denim romper. Thanks!

  36. MissMae Says:

These shoes are so awful but the rest of his shoe collection is pretty bad too. I just don’t understand who would actually buy these. He should stick to designing t-shirts and bags.

  37. Suspended Says:

I could only laugh harder at these if someone was wearing them. Go on, someone put them on for me.

  38. MightayMightay Says:

In totally honesty, these are the most grotesque things I can ever recall seeing. I assume these would only work for, say, J-Rock or Cosplay?

  39. BethUK Says:

Eww, these don’t even make it to kinky.

  40. J.E. Says:

    My eyes!!!!!!!

  41. ellio100 Says:

I know this phrase is overused, but: FUCKING HELL.
they are foul. who are they for? people who want to look like they’ve got two prosthetic legs AND crap taste in trainers???
You would have thought that’s to niche a market for wang.

On the plus side I can’t wait til these get ripped off and dozens of blog idiots start trotting round in them. I wonder who’ll be first…

  42. ellio100 Says:

    ^too niche, damnit.

  43. Kathleen Says:

Hmmm… I probably own a few clothing items hideous enough to make these look good by comparison. But for nearly a thousand $$ they’ll have to be a gift.

Oh, why am I even trying to kid myself with the “probably”?

But I buy my ugly crap after it goes on clearance, or hits an outlet/thrift/eBay.

  44. Desiree Says:

Someone stick this man in an institution please!
