Robin Wright: No.

RW chin problem

I have been gorging on Season 2 of House of Cards and Robin Wright is killing me. I can’t take it.

Why is she so fucking manly?

It’s hard to watch this series without complaining about the manliness. Even at its most engrossing, I am distracted by the physical ickiness of this actress once known for being pretty.

Is it misogynist of me to man-shame her? Is it homophobic or just looks-ist?

Trying to examine my strong reaction to Robin Wright, I realize that I can’t stand her posture either. Or her character’s skintight minimalist wardrobe. Wear a fucking COLOR, Robin Wright!

Her manly hairstyle draws attention to her huge neck and jaw. Why the huge jaw? Is it a chin implant or what? What’s the deal?

Please explain any part of this.

Yeah, I noticed that as well. Also the clothes she wears seem to emphasize the look in their cut.

  2. Another Mary Says:

You’re comparing her to a pic of her when she was in her 20′s. You sound like one of those men who say women with short hair look like dykes. She looks fantastic. Jealous a little?

She has a big boned face like most men do. The short hair accentuates it. Maybe they want her character to appear manly & that’s why she was cast. Reminds me a little of the features of the gold medal ice dancing skater Meryl Davis. Her face is so large and “off” that you can’t stop looking at it and not in a good way.

  5. Sister Wolf Says:

Another Mary – Ha, you wish! I’m sixty with a normal size jaw and I look awesome!

    Romeo – Hahahahahahaha

Heidi – Yep, they are so strict and no-frills. Hate them.

andrea – I will go look up Meryl Davis

If you will notice, the whole color scheme of the production is done mostly in multiple shades of gray. I thought that was to indicate, in an abstract way, how nothing in Washington is black and white. Also, her character’s wardrobe is black/white/gray and minimalist to emphasize her strong, rigid personality. She is a woman operating as ruthlessly as a man, in a male dominated world. She’s a cold as ice, as hard as nails, and she WILL get what she wants…all the while smiling sweetly. She is one scary bitch, that’s for sure. Robin Wright is perfect for this role, in my opinion.

  7. Kellie Says:

She is really chinnish, isnt she? I always notice the unfortunate looking Willis daughters, and their chins.
I have a double chin, so i am in no position to judge, perhaps.
    But I do.

  8. Sister Wolf Says:

Carla fox – Yep, she is perfect casting. And having watched the entire second season, I c an reveal that near the end, she wears a nude/tan colored dress.

Kellie – You are here to judge!

i to just finished the series. it was distracting. the only thing that varied was when, wait i am not sure where you left off. hmmm anyway it was a change. it is a contrast to the secrectary of state.

  10. mudwerks Says:

I find her extremely unattractive and unlikable (and it’s not the hair), this works very well in the role – the only problem is trying to believe that all these men find her attractive.

  11. annemarie Says:

She was always chinny. I always thought she was beautiful and still do.

Aging is awful. Yesterday my 30 yrs old friend was carded and I (37) was not. It was hard not to spend the quiet pockets of the conversation thinking about face creams.

  12. ali Says:

    totally looksist!

But she IS gross looking. Her posture is annoying in the same way that floppy legs are annoying.

Some girls just NEVER ever in their lives develop muscles in their thighs, and this sort often sits with legs splayed at strange and uncoordinated angles and I hate it.

  13. Dj Says:

There must be something wrong with me, I like her sleekness and minimal look…in season 1 when she was jogging she looked like a thoroughbred, the jaw, can’t decide…in days past she would called a “handsome”woman, she looks grown up and isn’t trying to be girlish which can be unattractive…I’d rather watch robin than any of the tramp Housewives…

  14. Alice Says:

wrong about RW- the most attractive, elegant, feminine woman in the media today. I have asked male friends and they agree.
Fantastic bone structure, skin, neck, hair. Love her style, too.
Maybe a bit jealous? In a different league…

  15. Sister Wolf Says:

    Ali – Gross looking, yep.

Dj – I agree, she qualifies as a ‘handsome woman’ like Glen Close. I don’t ever like those handsome women, but they obviously have an appeal.

Alice – What, are you her agent or her mother? I have already stated that I’m not jealous. I am way above her ‘league,’ okay? You Aldridges!

  16. Lottie Says:

It grew into a self-defense mechanism after being married to Sean Penn, she had to look like she could kick his as to keep him in line.

  17. David Duff Says:

Well, she’s another one who never answers my letters so she’s off my Christmas card list!

  18. ali Says:

The “league attractiveness” concept is irritating as fuck. It is kind of like when someone describes something as “classless”. If you think attraction is best understood through the structure of leagues, you are automatically at the bottom.

  19. me again Says:

Seeing her about a decade after Princess Bride in some movie I was shocked to almost not recognize her. She had changed so much. Completely lost that sweet look. I think this was the beginning of the Sean Penn era. She actually looks better and younger now compared to how she looked then. Still, she is a entirely different looking person than the Princess Bride girl. I could never figure out what changed…more than the short hair and sever clothes for sure.

  20. Sister Wolf Says:

Lottie – Maybe. I don’t know anything about their marraige except that it was rocky.

David – You’re much better off without her.

ali – Could not agree more.

me again – RIGHT, that’s what I see in the before and after!

  21. Laura Says:

Hmmm I haven’t seen the show but I don’t see the ugly. She was STUNNING in Forrest Gump, no?
